Global Warming, do you have an opinion? What is it? What is it based on?
Global Warming, these two words often receive many questions that have been mixed in with the emotions that can cloud your judgement. I link confusion to global warming a lot of the time; this is very understandable considering many people do not know enough about global warming to make their own opinion. Something that is quite crucial to know is; how does global warming work? The ozone is getting thicker and thicker because of green house gases and such, so when the UV rays come through the atmosphere and down to the ice it acts like a mirror and the UV rays bounce back to the ozone. Now this probably wouldn’t be such a big problem if the ozone wasn’t so thick. But because it is so thick the UV rays get trapped, under it like a blanket, and therefore we get global warming.
When you think about global warming you often wonder who or what caused it or if it is just a natural occurring phenomenon. In the Inconvenient Truth, Al Gore displays a graph that shows the rise and fall of the temperature for many years. Even though the temperature continues to rise and fall it rises more than it falls, showing a slow but steady incline through out the years, the falls indicate the ice ages. However when it comes to about one hundred years ago the rise starts to incline more. This is about when countries where becoming more industrialized. So when I saw this information I came upon the hypothesis that global warming happens naturally, but us the humans, are speeding up the process.
Some causes are car exhaust and factories that are polluting are air. Then there are of course the effects: ice caps melting, flooding carrying salt water into farming land, warm winters.
I am not exactly sure whether global warming is happening or not. But there is no down fall to try doing something to help stop it. No downfall, no one gets hurt, a greener planet, and if it is happening we can stop it. So why not? I think we should do something about global warming. But why believe me I am just a kid.
